Thai PM declares state of emergency in Bangkok. By GRANT PECK, Associated Press Writer - Thursday, April 8. BANGKOK – Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva declared a state of emergency in Bangkok on Wednesday, handing the army broad powers to restore order after weeks of disruptive street protests by anti-government demonstrators. The announcement came after protesters broke into Parliament and senior government officials had to be evacuated by helicopter. Some lawmakers scaled the compound's walls to escape. The government already had placed Bangkok under the strict Internal Security Act. But a state of emergency includes more sweeping powers. It gives the military authority to restore order and allows authorities to suspend certain civil liberties and ban all public gatherings of more than five people. The so-called Red Shirt protesters are demanding that Abhisit dissolve Parliament within 15 days and call new elections. He has offered to do so by the end of the year. They have been camped in Bangkok since March 12 and have ignored all other decrees for them to stop their protests. Abhisit has become the target of harsh criticism for failing to take strong measures to end the protests. He has tried negotiations, and has had security forces pull back from possible confrontations. In a statement broadcast on all television stations Tuesday, he explained that "the current fragile situation demands careful maneuvering." "We need to plan and implement everything to the last detail and with thorough care. The last thing we want is for the situation to spiral out of control."
More women arrested as drug mules. Channel NewsAsia - Wednesday, April 7. SINGAPORE - 15 women from Singapore were arrested last year for drug offences linked to West African syndicates. Three women were arrested for such offences in 2008. MediaCorp spoke to one drug mule who managed to save herself in the nick of time. Joanne, not her real name, got to know a man by the name of Hassan on Tagged.com. Joanne who is in her mid 30’s said a few months into their online relationship, Hassan asked her to bring some documents for him into China. She met someone in Kuala Lumpur to collect the documents. Joanne took the envelope to China but passed it to someone else as Hassan didn’t turn up. Hassan asked her to carry some documents to China again. She was alerted to her unusually heavy leather suitcase by a taxi driver who was ferrying her to the KL airport. The taxi driver told her there was something suspicious about the suitcase. She discovered a small package wrapped with black tape. At that point, Joanne was overcome with fear as she suspected it could be drugs. She left the suitcase in a hotel and made her way back to Singapore where she informed the police. MediaCorp understands the Singapore and Malaysia police launched a joint operation to seize the drugs in the suitcase. She said: "I am lucky that I’m still alive. I hate him and I am angry with his lies and I don’t trust people so easily anymore." The Central Narcotics Bureau reminds Singaporeans to be alert and to think twice about suspicious offers of free travel. — CNA/vm
Anyways, the funniest of things happened today. Lol. I never expected this from Liyana but she bought for me a pair of knickers. Hahaha. I know. I was utterly surprised the moment I saw her at work in the morning. And it says "Smooch" on my butt with an imprint of the lips in red lipstick. But I couldn't find a picture of it on Cotton On. Anyways, I was browsing through Nuffnang Singapore as usual. And it seems that they have an opening in their department and I thought of applying. Who knows. Since I am so into blogging why don't I just work with something I am so passionate about. Any ideas ? Hmm ... Anyway, I decided to remove the Nuffnang widget, again. It really get into my nerves because it doesn't stay where I want it to stay. Grr. What shall I do tomorrow I wonder. Have plans to make a trip to Kakak's house. Hey, come on ! Tomorrow is Friday. And, technically I don't work on Saturdays anymore. Hahaha. Kepada, rakan-rakan ku yang paling ku sayang, maaf lahh kan sebab on Saturday, aq tak ada untuk menemani korang. Sebab, aq dahh kena ban buat project tuu. Hahaha. Tapi, aq tetap sayang korang ehhk.
Anyways, reading the news on Yahoo, today. I am quite disturbed and shocked. Technically, I am glad that when we visited Thailand last January, it was all calm and peace. I don't know how it be if we were there now. And, not to mention that everyone practically thinks I am Thai. What the hell ? Everyone who looks at me will start speaking to me in Thai. It was funny and scary at the same time. Some Thai men actually thought that I was a cheap-can-fuck prostitute. Eyy, alamak. Kulit same-same lahh. But, different, okae ? And there were many instances, even now. That African men will tend to approach me or any of my friends as a matter of fact. It doesn't have to be through social networking websites like Facebook, Friendster, Tagged or Twitter. I am not racist, okae ? But, honestly, from my own point of view. These African men, not all. But some, are not afraid. There were so many instances that the will approach me when I am walking along Orchard Road and they'll start and try to strike a conversation with me. There was even a couple of times that this African guy followed me in the MRT and alighted at the same station, just to get my number ! God. There were also another incident that he took the same bus as me and alighted at the same stop, because he actually lived in my neighbourhood. And he spoke of sweet nothings to me just to convince me into giving my cellphone number. He spoke so loudly that everyone in the bus, especially the aunties and uncles, had stared at me from top to toe as though I am some kind of hooker. Like, what the hell ?!! Sale !!! And, today I had the most sinful lunch ever. I had a McSpicy meal which I upsized.
So, I got myself a medium Coca Cola and Shaker Fries. Then, Hani ordered the Cinnamon Melts. It is sinfully rich and too damn bloody hell sweet. But, it tasted so good ! I was too full to enjoy it. Maybe, next time I will buy it. Hahaha.
Pastu, aq nya backside also very itchy. Because Umi ordered an Oreo cheese cake So, I actually ordered cheese cake from Mac Cafe. Macam setan kan perangai ? Hehehe.
Now, I am so stuffed. I swear to God I am falling asleep soon. That is it for today. Before, it gets mundane. I better just leave. Bye ! P.s It feels weird talking to someone who has the same name with Love on the phone. Hahaha. | |
